Dorell Wright stays at Miami

Forward Dorell Wright has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Miami Heat, with his contract expected to be signed later this week. Wright was selected by Miami as the No. 19 pick in the 2004 NBA Draft and is a restricted free agent, with the Heat having the right to match outside offers. With little outside interest, Wright will receive a deal that will start at roughly the $2.9 million qualifying offer he had been extended by the Heat for 2008-09. Despite starting 34 of his 44 appearances last season before being sidelined by a knee injury, Wright, 22, likely will have to battle for playing time with defensive specialist Yakhouba Diawara. and 3-point specialist James Jones.

The

US basketball team continued its march for the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics by defeating

Greece
92-69 in their quarterfinal match. The team looks set shrug off the embarrassment that it suffered at the last Olympics and at the World Championships. It looks in formidable form with the likes of Chris Bosh and Kobe Bryant coming into form at the right time.

Kobe
added 18 points courtesy of his 7-for-14 performance from the field. Bosh also added 18 points along with LeBron James 13. It was

Greece
who had stunned the

US
in the semis of the World Championships and this victory certainly helped to cure some wound.

US beat China 101-70 at the Beijing Olympics

The most awaited basketball game between hosts China and the US at the Beijing Olympics did not live up to the hype that was created before the start of the game, as the US made short work of their arch rivals by defeating them convincingly by 101-70 at the Wukesong Indoor Stadium. Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, the NBA superstars, showed the Chinese players and the audience what winning for US meant to them and the high class of basketball skills exhibited by US players stole the heart of many Chinese fans. There is no doubt that tickets to most basketball games at the Olympics would be sold out.

Team U.S.A defeated

Australia 87-76 in the final exhibition game leading up to the Beijing Olympics. It was lackluster performance by the team being considered favorites. After looking unbeatable in the previous two games, the team had a tough time against the pesky Australian Team showing horrible shooting from 3-point line and free throws. However, the team’s suffocating defense in the 2rd Quarter helped them escape embarrassment against a weak Aussie team that had rested its superstar Andrew Bogut. The team was caught napping in the 3rd quarter allowing easy shots and layups. National team coach Mike Krzyzewski said that the team has to be at its best to have any chance of getting gold this year.

LA Clippers obtains Rockets forward Nowak

The Los Angeles Clippers who are on a signing spree has added Houston Rockets forward Steve Nowak to their team last Wednesday.  The Houston Rockets, on the other hand, will have the option of exchanging second round picks with the Clippers during the 2011 draft. The Clippers Vice President of basketball operations, Elgin Baylor, is happy to have Steve Nowak in their ranks and is hoping that they utilize his shooting skills to the fullest extent in the forthcoming NBA season. The management of the Los Angeles Clippers is happy to have this famed basketball player in their side. There is going to be an increase in the ticket sales to most of the Clippers sales next season with the addition of Nowak to the team roster.

Clippers signs swingman Davis

Ricky Davis, who played for Miami heat last season, signed a multi-year contract with the Clippers. According to Elgin Baylor, the general manager, Davis was selected for his versatility in play. He added that the team can use him as shooting guard or as small forward. The details about this contract are not announced. Clippers have signed two starters earlier this month. Ricky Davis will be one among the four reserves the team has, the other reserves are Jason Hart, Tim Thomas, and Eric Gordon. With all the able players in the team, it is expected that the ticket sales for the matches played by this team will soar high.
