Gordon over Pippin

Ben Gordon has become the Bulls all-time leader in three pointers shot. The former leader was Scottie Pippin who, along with Michael Jordan, led the Bulls to 6 championships in 8 years during the 1990s. Pippin had 664 three-pointers in 856 games with the Bulls. Ben Gordon has only played 346 games with the Bulls and just beat that 664 baskets mark. He may have a long career with the Bulls, so he may overtake Pippin by a lot, in the end. He seems to be hitting all the 3-pointers possible and it will be very exciting to watch him. He is one of the best players the team has had and one of the better players in the league at this point as well.

Rose, Beasley Part Une

While the Lakers stopping the Celtics winning streak at 19 seems like the biggest NBA story right now, the matchup between the Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat holds much more excitement. This Friday night matchup will feature the top two 08 draft picks, with Derrick Rose (1) playing for the Bulls and Michael Beasley (2) on the Heat. This will be a good demonstration (though not really, since Rose has proven himself) as to whether or not John Paxson made the right choice for the Bulls. When the Bulls were awarded the first pick of the draft last year, the question became Rose or Beasley. Tonight we may see if they chose the better player.

Cavs still winning

The Cleveland Cavaliers won again last night against the Houston Rockets, and remain unbeaten on their home court. LeBron James and Co. keep a great season alive. They have been winning and winning and no one seems to care. It’s because the Celtics are in the midst of a very impressive season, winning over 20 games in a row so far, and they don’t look like they’re cooling down. Both of these teams are the best in the Eastern Conference this year, which is otherwise quite boring. There are no other really good teams in the Conference this year and the western conference (aka, varsity) will still be kings, at least until playoff time.

Celtics Going For 17

A few games back, the Celtics were trying to win their record setting 13th game in a row. Now, they’re just enjoying the ride. After winning 16 in a row (including a handful of tough road games), fans have to start wondering at what point this could possibly end. It seems like the next three games will be relatively easy matches, aided by the home court advantage. They can get to 20 in a row before they take on the LA Lakers in LA. The streak could very well end there.

The Bottom

We always talk about the very successful teams, but for once, let’s talk about the worst team in the NBA, the newbie Oklahoma City Thunder. In fact, there’s talk that they are on track to tie the worst season record of all time. Their end-of-year record at that point would be 9-73.  This, however, according to ESPN, is unlikely. They have a lot of young players, including rookies and second-year players, who tend to improve throughout the year. They also have veteran players who have underperformed themselves by quite a bit so far this year. So it’s likely that they’ll improve quite a bit, but not enough to put them in the playoffs this year.

All Stars Already

The first set of All Star ballots has been returned and it’s not surprising to see LeBron and Kobe at the top of their respective conferences. Along with Lebron, Dwight Howard of the Orland Magic is atop of the polls. In fact, he is leading the entire ballot so far with 775,933 votes overall. Yao Ming is also amongst the top players voted in.

A few power rankings

The NBA Power Rankings are in on ESPN.com and they shake out about as well as you would have expected. The Celtics, Lakers and Cavs are in the top three spots, as they usually are. Portland is rather a surprise this year, as they’re young and have low expectations, but they are doing an impressive job so far this season. The poor Oklahoma City Thunder are at the bottom of the rankings. The team, who moved from Seattle this year, are just struggling and probably not getting the crowds they might be used to. I also heard that they lost many of their players in the move as well, so they’re in a tough spot. Anyway, the season is finally in good motion now, so we’ll have to keep an eye on some of these teams.

Celtics Going For Number 11

 celtics.jpg

For the first time in over twenty years, the Boston Celtics could win 11 games straight. Standing in their way is the streaking Portland Trail Blazers. While the Celtics are sitting atop the league with an 18-2 record, the Trail Blazers are not too far behind at 14-6. The Celtics, if they wish to get their 11th victory in a row, must find a way to get through the Portland defense that has been miserly with points so far this year. Marbury v. Knicks

Stephon Marbury has been directed not to take part in New York Knicks practice or games until further notice, after he and his representative were unable to come to an agreement with the team regarding a buyout of his contract. Marbury and the Knicks have been having a lot of trouble with each other lately. Marbury feels that he’s not being used well on the team and says that the rest of the team is not helping him out. The Knicks don’t like having a guy that they have to invest a lot of money in for nothing and who has such a rough attitude about the whole thing. He’s still stuck in New York though. Once he gets bought out, though, will there be another team waiting for him?
